Seven On Seven
I am really worn out today. Yesterday’s post was a bit on the heavy side, so I thought I might lighten things up a bit. So, without further ado, here are the top 7 things that are on my mind tonight.
#1: Job Opportunities
I got an email this morning about a possible job. I had such a hard time responding, but I mustered up the courage and now have a meeting for an assessment and possible interview scheduled for next week. They asked for a few time/date options, so I will know the exact details once they email me back.
I’m sure I’ll be a nervous wreck between now and then (and probably much longer than that), so if I start talking in riddles, at least now you know why.
#2: Nashville Predators vs. Columbus Blue Jackets
Some of you may not know this, but I am a huge hockey fan. My favorite NHL teams are the Nashville Predators and Columbus Blue Jackets. Lucky for me, they are playing each other tonight at 7 EST, and as always I am really excited and have somewhat conflicting feelings about it.
Columbus is my number one team, but I would be lying if I didn’t say I loved Nashville first. I’ve been to several games at both arenas and loved every minute of it. Actually, I have an interesting story about one of the last times I was at a Nashville Predators game, but I am saving that for later this month. It’s a bit of a doozy.
By the way, I know for sure I will end up posting this well after the first puck drop, so it’s their fault if I start rambling and become incoherent. 😉 Well, that and my uncontrollable nerves.
#3: Unspoken (Shadow Falls: After Dark, Book 3)
I just finished listening to Unspoken, the last book of the Shadow Falls: After Dark trilogy. It was probably one of the better books in the series and I was pleasantly surprised. Usually, I end up hating the last book of a series because it is obviously rushed and doesn’t really make much sense.
Even some of my favorite series end up making me angry in the end. I loved the Divergent series but absolutely loathed the third book. It was a fairly decent read, but the ending was obviously written for no other reason than to deliver some sort of shock factor and tick people off, myself included. That’s all I will say about it (no spoilers, just in case you haven’t read it).
#4: Twitter Character Limit
FINALLY, Twitter is rolling out its 280 character limit to us Average Joe users. No longer will the Twitter elite be able to hashtag and tweet to their hearts content while we sit idly by and wonder which words or characters we can eliminate from our tweets and still get our message across. “Someone stab me” just doesn’t mean the same thing as “Help, please! Someone is stabbing me.”
#5: Instagram Blues
I used to spend a lot of time on Instagram. I manage two accounts, one for Blissful Lemon and another for Color My Life. For months, I spent hours and hours each day liking, commenting, following, taking pictures, participating in hand lettering challenges, and trying to build my following. I wasn’t great at it, but I did as much as I could in the amount of time that I had.
I keep planning to get back into it, but I’m just not sure if it would be a waste of time. People rarely commented anything other than random emojis half the time, so it felt a lot like being ignored by a room of people that were much cooler (and younger) than me. Not great for confidence.
Plus, I keep seeing people with 50k followers complaining about their engagement falling to almost nothing with IG’s new algorithm. Between that and being shadowbanned for using certain hashtags (which doesn’t make much sense to me), I’m wondering if my time would be better spent elsewhere.
I thought about hosting a lettering challenge because I’d love to get back into it, but now I’m really not sure. If anyone has any thoughts on this, I’d love to hear them. I’m open to any suggestions or if you know of an alternate platform that might be better.
#6: Etsy Shop & Color My Life
I made two sales on Etsy a few weeks ago, pretty much back-to-back by different customers. It was so exciting because before that only one or two other people (besides friends and family) purchased anything. It made me feel like I was finally doing something right. I’m still excited about it! I haven’t gotten any additional sales yet, but I know they will come eventually.
I’m going to start working on more blog planner pages to add to the Blog Post Planner. I hope I can get them done in the next few weeks because I thought about giving a few of them away to some of the other NaBloPoMo participants. No promises! It’s just something I’ve been thinking about for a while. I wanted to put together a contest for this month and wasn’t able to come up with anything. Maybe that will be it if I can get it done in time.
#7: Color Inspiration Palettes
If you’re on Pinterest, you have probably seen at least one or two of these color inspiration palettes. I love them so much, I started making them and publishing one a day on the Color My Life website. Then I got super busy last month and ended up falling behind. I haven’t published any new ones since then. BUT I am excited because this weekend I created several new palettes and I am going to start scheduling them in the next few days.
I usually just use free stock photos from pixabay or unsplash for the color palettes, but I would love to start supporting other businesses and artists by showcasing artwork and other photos, especially if anyone is trying to sell or advertise their work.
If you have a photograph that you’d like to submit to be used in a color palette, you can tweet @cmlplanner or use #cmlcolor. If your photo is used, I will add a link back to your website, portfolio, shop, social profile, or wherever you prefer, on both the CML website as well as any social media updates that include the color palette.
I have been so drained today, I have fallen behind on comments and my reading list. I’ve been adding blog posts and articles to Pocket all day but I haven’t gotten through more than a few. I promise to do better tomorrow. <3
